Nestled amidst the beauty of the Himalayan wilderness, Naukuchiatal is a quaint village in Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It is one of the hidden gems of Uttarakhand that are unblemished by the urban decorum The name “Naukuchiatal” literally translates to “nine-cornered lake”, as the town is situated around a beautiful lake that is shaped like a nine-cornered star.It is 26 Kms from Nainital and 4 Kms from Bhimtal at 1220 mts above sea level. A pretty deep clean lake with its nine corners is a captivating site. Length of the lake is 983 mts. breadth is 693 mts & depth 40.3 mts. According to Hindu mythology, Brahma created this huge lake (now known as Naukuchiatal Lake) after a deep and vigorous penance.As the name suggests, the lake has 9 corners . It is believed that all the 9 corners are not visible from any place situated on land. You could however spot them from the air. The myth is that anyone who is able to sight all the 9 corners from any spot on land will attain ‘Moksha’. It is within an enchanting valley offering an opportunity of angling and bird watching.1,200 m above Naukuchiatal is a quaint village that lies at an altitude of 1,200 m above sea level. This off-beat stopover is ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in peace and quiet. Naukuchiatal is known for its nine-cornered lake that is about 1 km in length and 40 m in depth. Naukuchiatal is known for its picturesque loveliness with lotus flowers and various species of fishes. The place is worth visiting when lotus flowers bloom and give an eye-soothing vision. The water of the lake is very clear, pure and healthy and bluish-green in color. The lake has its perennial source of water from the underground spring. It’s a clean, healthy and beautiful lake.

By Road:
Take a bus to Nainital or Haldwani from Delhi ISBT. Then book a cab to Naukuchiatal. You may also take a shared taxi to Bhimtal and then change from there for Naukuchiatal.
By Rail
Take your train from Old Delhi railway station or from Nizamuddin. Nearest Railway Station is at Kathgodam. Naukuchiatal is situated 44kms from Kathgodam . There are two trains that run daily between Delhi to Kathgodam and vice-versa. You need to get down here and take a shared taxi to Bhimtal. You may also book a direct cab to Naukuchiatal.
By Air
The nearest International airport is IGI Airport, Delhi (300 km away) and the closest domestic airport is Pant Nagar Airport (60 km away). You may follow the Road or Railway route from here.
Naukuchiatal is the perfect place to visit in any month of the year . Usually, tourists prefer months of March to May and again from December to January but for some ,the best time is during Monsoon, between July to October for two reasons.
